Google Staff Petition SF Pride To Nix Company From Parade

As this weekend's San Francisco Pride looms closer, Google has about 100 detractors in their court and, surprisingly, they're Google employees.

According to per a new report from Bloomberg, the detractors are pressuring the folks behind the LGBTQ festivity to pull Google out as a sponsor of the parade because the internet giant's handling of blogosphere hate. "Whenever we press for change, we are told only that the company will ‘take a hard look at these policies,'" the employees wrote in a letter via Medium sent on Wednesday (June 26) to the board of directors of San Francisco Pride. "But we are never given a commitment to improve, and when we ask when these improvements will be made, we are always told to be patient. We are told to wait. For a large company, perhaps waiting is prudent, but for those whose very right to exist is threatened, we say there is no time to waste, and we have waited too long, already."

Meanwhile, a Google spokesperson shared a different side of the story, arguing that the company celebrates the LGBTQ community and their own "Gaygler" community are divided on the issue. Some have reportedly been circulating an anti-petition that is in support of the company being part of this weekend's festivities.
