Martha Quinn's Bob The Builder Adventure

If you want to add a layer of sparkle to your house, try this DIY home improvement project I did on my vacation. I replaced the shower door seal in my son’s apartment!

You can see in the “before” picture it looked completely dirty and gross when we first got into the new pad. I took this picture to the hardware store to ask if they had a cleaner that could get those stains out. They told me the whole seal could be replaced! I had to bring the seal in for them to cut another one to match. I thought it’d be easy to get the new one on since it was easy to snap the old one off.

Wasn’t as easy as I thought! The seal kept getting stuck when I tried to slide it on the bottom of the door. YouTube to the rescue!

The first one shows how to get the seal on the door. Starting from the hinge side was the key. I’m including the second video for the host’s tip to cut a rounded end on the seal. I did not do that and when I felt how sharp the seal was I realized why he suggested that rounded cut. Next time I’ll do that!

The updated caulking was done by the maintenance crew. Between those two tweaks, this bathroom looks 1000 times better! Wasn’t as easy as I thought! The seal kept getting stuck when I tried to slide it on the bottom of the door. YouTube to the rescue!

Here are the two tutorials that showed me how to get this project done.

This first guy solved the problem of how to get the seal onto the door. Sliding it on from the end didn’t work for me, it kept getting stuck!

Here’s the video with the trimming tip being shared by a bare-foot DIY expert. You’ll notice he uses a rubber mallet to get the seal on, a process you don’t need if you watch the first video!

If you have any shower doors with funky, yucky rubber strips on them, check out these YouTube videos and give this a try!
