After a year of award shows being cancelled, or start giving acceptance speeches in their PJs, 2021 seems to be slowly getting back to the in-person model. Such is the case for the 93rd annual Academy Awards that run live this Sunday night on ABC. The show will run from it's usual spot at the Dolby Theatre at the Hollywood & Highland Center as well as from Union Station Los Angeles and won't have a specific host, but rather a bunch of big presenters.
So, what does it cost to put on a show like this? One of my favorite sites, WALLETHUB, has broken down the Oscars by the numbers!
- Total cost of the Oscars ceremony - $40 million
- The total look of an A-list actress attending the Oscars - $10 million
- The cost of the 50,000 square feet of Oscars red carpet - $24K
- The cost of a 30-second commercial on the telecast - $2 million (that's 64% less than the Super Bowl).
